The Idaho IceWorld Skating School runs in 6 - 8 week sessions. Skaters work to complete a set of objectives for each skill level. Classes meet once a week for 25 minutes.

Spuds and Tater Tots (Parent & Me) - Designed for children ages 2-3 years who have never had formal instruction. Basic skating skills will be taught to the children while requiring parents to participate with the kids.

Wee Ones – Designed children ages 2-3 years old who want to learn how FUN being on the ice can be!  Focus will be on safety both on and off the ice and how to stand and fall correctly while playing games and learning the fundamentals of skating.  No parental participation on ice required.

Snowplow Sam 1 - Designed to teach basic skills to children ages 4-6 years who have never had instruction in a fun, safe and nurturing environment.

Snowplow Sam 2 - For children ages 4-6 who have completed Snowplow Sam 1. Child should be able to glide across the ice and will begin to learn the proper method of pushing and gliding across ice, swizzles, back wiggles and snowplow stop motion.

Snowplow Sam 3 - For children ages 4-6 who have completed Snowplow Sam 2. Child should be able to march and glide, dip, wiggle backwards, do two-foot swizzles and snowplow stop motion.

Snowplow Sam 4 - For children ages 4-6 who have completed Snowplow Sam 3, but aren't ready for joining the older skaters in the Basics. Skaters will add the Rocking Horse, two foot turns and two foot hops in place to their skills.

Basic 2 - For ages 7 & up. Prerequisite master of Basic 1 or Snowplow Sam 3 or 4 elements. Scooter pushes. Forward one-foot glide; R&L. Backward two-foot glide. Rocking Horse. Backwards swizzles. Two-foot turn from forward to backward in place. Moving snowplow stop. Curves.

Moving forward to backward two-foot turn, both directions. Backward one-foot glides, R&L. Backward snowplow stop, R&L. Forward slalom. Forward pivots, both directions.

Beginning one-foot spin. T-stop, R&L. Bunny hop. Forward spiral on a straight line, R&L. Shoot the duck, R&L.

Teen - Designed for teenagers 13 - 18 yrs. Classes will follow the Learn to Skate USA Adult curriculum, which is more progressive than the Basic 1 - 6 and Pre-Free Skate curriculum.

Adult 1- 6 - Designed for adults ages 18 & up. Class will follow the Learn to Skate USA Adult curriculum.

Intro to Synchronized Skating – For ages 4-12. Skaters must be concurrently enrolled in Snowplow Sam 3 or Snowplow Sam 4, Basics 1-6, Pre-Free Skate or Free Skate 1 Learn to Skate class. Class will be divided into levels based on skating ability and/or age.  Skaters will learn how to work together to perform a number to music. The groups will perform in the annual ice show on Dec. 8. Registration in this class is a commitment to prioritizing weekly attendance and participation in the ice show.  $164 activity fee includes 14 classes Sept-Dec and Ice Show Participation Fee.  Ice Show costume fee will be an additional charge TBD. We do our best to keep this cost below $50. Being a part of a team adds to the fun of skating!

Elite Pre-Free Skate - For ages 7 & up. Prerequisite mastery of Basic 6 elements. Skaters will work out off-ice with a professional personal trainer to gain better strength, flexibility, balance and endurance.  The on-ice portion of this class is lengthened, offering time for stroking and power skating.  Skaters will learn a forward inside open Mohawk from a standstill position, backward crossovers to a backward outside edge glides, backward outside edge to a forward outside edge transition, basic combination footwork, one-foot upright spin, Mazurka, Waltz jump and backward inside pivots.  Once all skills are mastered, skaters advance to Free Skate 1 and receive a Certificate of Achievement and a Pre-Free Skate badge.

Pre-Free Skate (formerly Basic 7 & 8) - For ages 7 & up. Prerequisite master of Basic 6 elements. Forward inside open Mohawk from a stand still position, R to L & L to R. Backward outside edge to forward outside edge transition on a circle, both directions. Backward crossovers to a backward outside edge glide (landing position), both directions. Two forward crossovers into a forward inside Mohawk, step down and cross behind, step into one backward crossover and step to a forward inside edge, both directions. One-foot upright spin. Mazurka, R&L. Waltz jump. Backward inside pivots, both directions.

Elite Free Skate 1 - 6 - Prerequisite mastery of Pre-Free Skate elements. Designed to introduce the skater to the next level of figure skating.  In addition to learning the skating elements required at these levels, skaters will work out off-ice with a professional personal trainer to gain better strength, flexibility, balance and endurance.  The on-ice portion of this class is lengthened, offering time for stroking and power skating.  Skaters will concentrate on beginning jumps, spin techniques and Moves in the Field.  Skaters must have mastered Pre-Free Skate elements.  Once skills are mastered at a level, skaters advance to the next Free Skate level and receive a Certificate of Achievement and a badge.  After completion of Free Skate 6, skaters will want to enroll in Axel class and move into private instruction if they haven’t yet done so.

Free Skate 1 - 6 - Designed to introduce the skater to the next level of figure skating. Class will concentrate on beginning jumps; spin techniques; and moves in the field tests. Skater must have passed Pre-Free Skate.

Axel - 7 & up.  Prerequisite mastery of Free Skate 6 or recommended by an Idaho IceWorld Licensed Coach. Designed to ignite enthusiasm and accelerate the advancement of skaters ready for multi-revolution jumps.  Naturally follows the completion of Free Skate 6 level, but not required.  Skater should have mastered bunny hops, Waltz jumps and beginning back scratch spins and loop jumps.  A combination of off-ice and on-ice training will develop the skill development until the Axel is mastered.

Adaptive Skating - Ages 5 & up. This adaptive recreation class is designed to give individuals with disabilities the opportunity to increase their personal potential through the development of ice skating skills. Students will receive instruction based upon their individual needs and goals. Some adaptive equipment is available for use at no extra cost. Scholarship opportunities are available.
