The Objectives of the Program

  • Teach children and adults the fundamentals of ice skating while building confidence and skills through each lesson.

  • Provide a progressive curriculum that ensures success from the first steps on the ice to the mastery of advanced skills.

  • Promote the health and fitness benefits of ice skating.

  • Equip each participant with the foundation necessary to reach his or her goal, be it recreational or competitive in nature.

The Learn to Skate USA program offers several levels of advancement. This ensures individual skaters will be paired with other skaters of similar age and abilities. The program offers classes skaters ages 2 & up. Certificates and achievement badges are awarded as skaters progress through the levels.

Curriculum

Ages 2-4:  Spuds and Tots (Parent and Child)
An adult (18 & over) must accompany child onto the ice with ice skates on. The adult must have basic balance on skates while on the ice, as the adult is expected to support the child both physically and emotionally. The goal of this class is to provide a safe, supported environment for the young child to gain confidence on the ice while interacting through games and activities.

Ages 7+:  AIM (Artistry in Motion) (Click link for PDF Download)
With the Artistry in Motion curriculum, skaters will learn the basic principles and philosophy of choreography, presentation, and performance while refining their skating skills. Skaters will have fun skating and learning to interpret music from multiple genres while learning advanced step sequences. The Artistry in Motion curriculum is available for skaters of all ages Basic/Teen/Adult Level 4 – 6. Upon completion, skaters will have a basic understanding of choreographic principles to implement into their skating performances and competitions. 30 minute warm up/practice on ice prior to class start time.

Ages 13+:  FREE SKATE (Teen/Adult 13+)
Teen/Adult (passed Basic 6) Free Skate levels are comprised of a variety of progressive skating skills, transitions, spins and jumps — all of which build on the previous skill, providing skaters a strong foundation of all elements. These levels will be taught in a positive and interactive group format. Instructors will focus on quality and mastery of skills.
